Oculoplastics and Facial Aesthetics

Aesthetics & Reconstructive Surgery

Blepharoplasty

Loose or sagging skin surrounding the eyes can affect vision. Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, can be performed at Beach Eye Care and can improve vision and result in a younger appearance. This surgical treatment involves creating an incision in the crease of the upper eyelid and removing fatty deposits and excess skin. For puffy or baggy eyes, the lower lid can also be treated, often with an incision on the lower lash line or the interior of the lower lid. Whether you are seeking to improve your appearance or are having vision issues, Dr. Kanyinda can assess the anatomy of your eyes and provide the best course of treatment.

Brow Lift

Brow Lift

Also known as a forehead lift, a brow lift can create a more youthful appearance by reducing horizontal wrinkle lines on the forehead and on the bridge of the nose and the vertical lines that occur between the eyebrows. The procedure can also lift sagging upper eyelids, especially when combined with blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery. Methods to perform the procedure include creating a small incision in the hairline into which an endoscope is inserted to adjust tissue and muscle beneath the surface.

Benign & Malignant Eyelid Lesions

An eyelid lesion is a growth that forms along the edge of the eyelid. Most often benign, they should always be biopsied to ensure that they are not cancerous or pre-cancerous. In most cases, the removal can be done in just 20-30 minutes with a local anesthetic. If the lesion is cancerous, the skin cancer will be fully removed with Mohs reconstructive surgery.

Tear Duct Surgery

Tear Duct Surgery

Some of the symptoms of a blocked tear duct include excessive tear production, redness, recurrent pink eye, swelling in the corner of the eye, discharge from eyelids and blurred vision. The lacrimal (tear duct) system can become blocked in multiple places causing infections and pain. As an oculofacial surgeon, Dr. Kanyinda can perform surgical procedures including puntoplasty to open or widen a tear duct, or in the case of tear overproduction, punctual plugs can be placed. Other procedures include canalicular and nasolacrimal duct surgeries.

Ptosis Surgery

Ptosis is a condition in which a drooping eyelid prevents normal vision. Children can be born with the condition (congenital) and adults may develop it when the levator muscle separates from the eyelid due to aging or injury. Ptosis surgery is an outpatient procedure in which the levator muscle is adjusted, strengthened and in some cases reattached to restore vision and symmetrical appearance of the eyelids.

Thyroid Eye Disease

An immune system disorder affecting the thyroid can cause inflammation of the muscles and tissues surrounding the eye. The puffing and bulging may be accompanied by dry eye, a gritty feeling and eventual eye bulging. Procedures performed could include one of multiple surgeries including orbital decompression, extraocular muscle surgery, and eyelid repositioning.
