From Navy’s Finest to Chesapeake’s Newest
If you check out Beach Eye Care’s website you’ll see that Dr. Patrick Barker’s Naval Career is more than impressive, which is why we’re so excited that he chose to make his new HQ at Beach Eye Care’s Chesapeake location. He’ll also be practicing at our First Colonial and Holland Road locations, but we wanted to let all of our friends know what level of care they can expect with the addition of Dr. Barker to our team.

Q&A with Dr. Patrick Barker
How long have you been at Beach Eye Care?
I started part-time while I was still active duty back in July 2022 and transitioned to full-time in November 2022.
What is your favorite thing about living in Coastal Virginia?
We lived in the area on and off for eight years during my time in the Navy. We decided to settle here at the end of my naval career because of the close community-feel and excellent schools. We also enjoy easy access to the beach and relatively short travel to visit family in Maryland.
What sets Beach Eye Care apart from other practices?
The practice is patient-centered with focus on delivering excellent care and commitment to improving the patient experience and outcomes through innovations and technology. I have also been so impressed with the quality of work, teamwork and camaraderie amongst the staff that it has been a real pleasure to join the team.
What made you choose Ophthalmology?
I’ve always had an interest in the physics of optics and vision. My interest was solidified when I was applying to medical school and shadowed an Ophthalmologist for a couple of days. I was captivated by the precision of cataract surgery and enjoyed the clinical experience. It is such a rewarding experience to be able to restore and improve vision through cataract and refractive surgery and I feel very fortunate to have gotten into the field.
What are some of your favorite non-work related hobbies?
I enjoy outdoor activities including skiing, mountain biking, hiking and fishing.
What is your favorite place to eat?
Terrapin Restaurant in Virginia Beach.
Who makes up your family household?
My wife Erin and I have been married for 16 years. We have two children: our daughter Alaina is 13 and our son Dominic is 10. Alaina is a drummer and loves music and crocheting. Dominic has been learning piano and loves Nintendo and building LEGO® sets.
