Vivek K. (Vic) Jain, MD
Dr. Vivek K. (Vic) Jain, MD, Beach Eye Care’s President, Medical Director and Director of Refractive Surgery, graduated from Johns Hopkins University and received his medical degree at West Virginia University. An internal medicine internship in Charleston, WV, followed by an ophthalmology residency in Camden, NJ, culminated in Dr. Jain’s appointment as chief resident in his third year at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital. Dr. Jain is fellowship-trained in cornea and refractive surgery at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA. He is board-certified in ophthalmology (by the American Board of Ophthalmology) and in both LASIK and cataract surgery (by the American Board of Eye Surgery). Dr. Jain is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, Refractive Surgery Alliance and Assistant Professor at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Dr. Jain has been serving the Coastal Virginia community for over 20 years.
Edgar M. (Ed) Levine, MD
Edgar M. (Ed) Levine, board-certified ophthalmologist, joined the Beach Eye Care team in 2016. In practice for more than twenty-seven years, Dr. Levine comes to us following his tenure as Department Head of Ophthalmology and the Founding Director of Refractive Surgery at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. A graduate of Kansas State University, Dr. Levine completed his medical degree at University of Kansas School of Medicine, after which he entered the U.S. Navy and completed an internship in internal medicine and his residency in ophthalmology at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego. During his career in the Navy, CAPT. Levine was awarded a vast array of medals and commendations including a Defense Meritorious Service Medal, two Meritorious Service Medals, two Navy Achievement Medals, two National Defense Ribbons, and many other esteemed ribbons and awards. Dr. Levine is board-certified in ophthalmology and has spent more than twenty years specializing in anterior segment LASIK, laser-assisted cataract surgery and ICL implants.
Jason Alvarez, MD
Dr. Jason Alvarez moved to the United States from the Philippines in 2007 to pursue his higher education at the University of North Florida, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He earned his medical degree from the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University, where he served as President of the Ophthalmology Interest Group. During medical school, he conducted a year of ophthalmology research at the National Institutes of Health through the Medical Research Scholars Program and presented his work at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. Dr. Alvarez went on to complete his medical internship at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore and his ophthalmology residency at the Krieger Eye Institute, where he served as chief resident. During his final year of training, he independently completed the Refractive Surgery Alliance Resident Refractive Surgery course and devoted the majority of his elective time training with Dr. Sonny Goel, one of the most prominent refractive surgeons in Maryland. He has also completed the Forefront Refractive Surgery course from the world-renowned London Vision Clinic, has performed numerous LASIK procedures and is certified in SMILE. Dr. Alvarez is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and his professional memberships include the Refractive Surgery Alliance, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Patrick Barker, MD
Board-certified Ophthalmologist Dr. Patrick D. Barker joined the Beach Eye Care team following a prodigious medical career with the U.S. Military. A 2002 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Dr. Barker followed his undergraduate work with medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, and with multiple Military Medical training opportunities in Bethesda and Pensacola, Florida, where he excelled in Military Tropical Medicine and trained as an Aeromedical Officer. Dr. Barker served as a Naval Flight Surgeon with Carrier Air Wing ONE at NAS Oceana prior to completing his ophthalmology residency at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in 2014. Dr. Barker continued his career as an ophthalmologist and Director of Refractive Surgery at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and Department Head at US Naval Hospital Guam. Dr. Barker joins the practice with expertise in General Ophthalmology, Cataract Surgery, LASIK and ICLs, as well as the medical and surgical management of Glaucoma and Diabetic Retinopathy. Licensed and board-certified, Dr. Barker’s dedication has earned him a host of medical and military Commendation and Service Medals, as well as “Best of the Best” care provider awards.
